A whistleblower is a person who exposes misconduct, dishonesty or illegal activity occurring in an organization. The 1989 Whistleblower Protection Act is a federal law that protects government-employed whistleblowers from any type of retaliation. Whistleblowers may file a complaint when they have evidence of a violation of a law, rule or regulation. Other possible reasons for whistleblower complaints include gross mismanagement, blatant waste of funds, abuse of authority or a danger to public safety. Whistleblowers typically receive a percentage of the money they save their agencies. The 2010 Dodd-Frank Act authorizes whistleblower awards of up to 30% of the funds collected for those furnishing high-quality original information. The amount of these rewards can be considerable. In 2013, a Justice Department settlement with five of our largest mortgage servicing companies resulted in an award of $46 million to a group of whistleblowers.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is a federal agency that regulates consumer finance markets. It makes and enforces rules which are effective in giving consumers the information they need to make good financial decisions. Supporters say this agency is a good candidate for whistleblower protections.
Proposed Legislation: Reintroduction of H.R.7793 - Financial Compensation for CFPB Whistleblowers Act (116th Congress 2019-2020)

- I oppose reforming current whistleblower policy and wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Speaker Kevin McCarthy (CA).
- I support requiring the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to provide rewards to whistleblowers who report information relating to a violation of consumer financial law resulting in certain monetary sanctions greater than or equal to $500,000 by:
1.) Requiring the Bureau to award compensation to whistleblowers for 10%-30% of the collected monetary sanctions.
2.) In cases where the bureau is unable to collect at least $1 million of the imposed sanctions, the Bureau must award any single whistleblower 10% of the amount collected or $50,000, whichever is greater.
And also wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Rep. Al Green (TX) and/or to an advocate group currently working with this issue.

If elected as a trustee, the campaign committee of Rep. Al Green (TX) will be unconditionally awarded the funds pledged to this issue along with a letter requesting him to favorably consider either reintroducing H.R.7793 - Financial Compensation for CFPB Whistleblowers Act (116th Congress 2019-2020), or a similar version thereof.

If elected as a trustee, National Whistleblowers Center will be awarded the funds pledged to affect this issue along with a letter requesting these funds be used to advocate for rewarding whistleblowers and protecting them from retaliation.
